About the Role

Lightpath is building the fiber infrastructure the digital economy depends on – owning, operating, and expanding dense, high-performance networks for enterprises, public institutions, carriers, and cloud innovators. The Lead System and Database Administrator will be a hands-on position responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of our server and database environments, requiring expertise in managing Linux and Windows operating systems, database platforms including Oracle and PostgreSQL, and virtualized infrastructure.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Server Management: Manage, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows servers to ensure optimal performance, uptime, system upgrades, patches, and migrations.
  • Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability, performance tuning, clustering, and replication.
  • Backup & Recovery: Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes using tools like Rubrik to meet organizational requirements and ensure data integrity.
  • Security & Compliance: Design and implement database security measures including encryption, role-based access, auditing, and adherence to cybersecurity policies.
  • Virtualization & Infrastructure: Manage virtualized environments predominantly using Nutanix AHV hypervisor, storage solutions, and resource scaling.
  • Automation & Documentation: Develop and test automation scripts (Bash, PowerShell, Python) and maintain detailed documentation of system and database configurations.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of experience in system and database administration.
  • OS Proficiency: Strong proficiency with Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, etc.) and Windows operating systems.
  • Database Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Oracle and PostgreSQL database administration, including clustering and replication.
  • Virtualization & Backup: Experience managing virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix) and backup solutions such as Rubrik.
  • Automation: Strong understanding of scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) for operational automation.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Certifications: Certifications such as RHCE, MCSE, Oracle Certified Professional, or PostgreSQL certifications.
  • Cloud & Hybrid: Knowledge of cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure integration.
  • Compliance: Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOX.
