About the Role

At Jack Henry, you will drive the modernization of the enterprise data tier, championing a shift from traditional DBA administration to a code-first, automated Database Reliability Engineering discipline across a hybrid cloud footprint, primarily migrating workloads into Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Establish automated, repository-driven pipelines for declarative infrastructure using Terraform and zero-downtime schema migrations (Flyway, Liquibase).
  • Automate backup verification and point-in-time recovery (PITR) testing across hybrid environments to validate RPO/RTO targets.
  • Define database-specific SLIs/SLOs to track real user impact, including query latency regressions and lock contention.
  • Build self-service provisioning workflows and intelligent traffic-routing layers using PgBouncer or ProxySQL.
  • Lead the technical execution of re-architecting and migrating legacy workloads into GCP (Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, AlloyDB).
  • Optimize high-throughput OLTP workloads through proactive indexing strategies and execution plan analysis (EXPLAIN / Query Store).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 9 years of experience in cloud and hybrid datacenter operations with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Reliability Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, including hands-on experience designing resilient high-availability and traffic-routing architectures (e.g., Availability Groups, PgBouncer).
  • Proficiency with GitOps, Terraform and Ansible in a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Solid understanding of Linux (POSIX) and Windows System administration as well as networking and firewalls.
  • Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards such as CIS, NIST and PCI.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering.
  • Google Associate Cloud Engineer or Google Cloud Architect preferred.
  • Proficient in ArgoCD and GitOps.
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Open Telemetry tooling and alerting such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack.
