About the Role

Casap is building the world’s first AI-native disputes automation and fraud prevention platform for financial institutions. We’re looking for an SRE to own our production databases end to end, weighted heavily toward database reliability rather than general infrastructure. You will join the Foundations team in a regulated environment (PCI DSS and SOC 2) to ensure our data layer is backed up, restorable, fast, and secure.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Aurora PostgreSQL in production management, overseeing availability, performance, capacity planning, and major-version upgrades.
  • Backups and restores execution, defining backup policies, point-in-time recovery, and scheduled restore tests with measured recovery time and data-loss targets.
  • DynamoDB migration oversight from the data side, handling access-pattern and data-model reviews, backfill and dual-write plans, validation, cutover, and rollback.
  • Database access and security enforcement, implementing least-privilege roles, credential rotation, audit logging, and encryption in line with PCI DSS and SOC 2.
  • Data-layer observability maintenance, monitoring slow queries, connection saturation, replication lag, and storage growth with alerting in Datadog.
  • On-call support for data-layer incidents, leading response, follow-through, and written post-incident reviews.
  • Runbook documentation creation, ensuring that they are clear enough for the rest of engineering to operate databases safely.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Production PostgreSQL experience, having been directly accountable for its operational stability and failure recovery.
  • Deep PostgreSQL skills including query planning, indexing, vacuum and bloat management, connection pooling, replication, and major-version upgrades.
  • Real-world backup and restore experience, covering point-in-time recovery, restore drills, and measured recovery times.
  • AWS data store knowledge, including Aurora PostgreSQL (Serverless v2) and DynamoDB data modeling (access patterns, key design, capacity).
  • Infrastructure and scripting proficiency with Terraform or OpenTofu, CI pipelines, and scripting in Python, Go, or Bash.
  • Regulatory environment experience, having worked under PCI DSS, SOC 2, or a similar compliance regime.
  • Strong technical writing skills to author runbooks, migration plans, and incident reviews.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • TimescaleDB in production experience.
  • A completed migration from a relational database to DynamoDB.
  • Datadog database monitoring expertise.
  • Experience in payments, banking, or another fintech setting.
