About the Role

Join the Database Engineering team at American Express in building the next generation of public and private cloud database platforms. You will work on an innovative and disruptive opportunity to build and maintain a global scale enterprise-wide cloud platform with an open source technology stack, achieving high availability and uptime SLAs.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Design & Ownership: Own the technical design, development, implementation, and support of on-premises and public cloud database platforms.
  • Architecture & Engineering: Lead hands-on architecture, design, and engineering of scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available database solutions.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyze complex system architectures to proactively identify technical risks, dependencies, performance bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Platform Modernization: Leverage cloud-native and emerging technologies to drive platform modernization, automation, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Production Support: Provide production support on a rotational basis, troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring platform stability and availability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • DBA Experience: 8+ years of database administration experience, preferably in PostgreSQL, Couchbase, Mongo, and Cassandra.
  • Development & Automation Experience: 4+ years of development experience in programming in Python and Terraform, with experience in system configuration using Ansible.
  • Linux Experience: 5+ years of Linux administration experience.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience deploying various public cloud services related to Network, Security, Compute, and Database services, and experience coding Terraform modules with various providers.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Experience with container and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
