About the Role

TalentHop is recruiting on behalf of a leading financial technology organization that builds data infrastructure to support online transactional and analytical systems. As the Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Online Storage), you will architect, build, and scale relational and distributed SQL database platforms. You will enhance reliability, automation, and performance for mission-critical data systems underpinning high-volume financial services.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Build and operate control planes for large-scale distributed SQL databases, automating provisioning, failover, backups, and upgrades.
  • Design and execute zero-downtime schema and data migrations across multi-tenant database clusters.
  • Manage and tune networking stacks connecting services to storage on Kubernetes for latency, resilience, and failover.
  • Own and deliver quarterly engineering goals, leading technical problem-solving initiatives.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams to support platform capabilities.
  • Support production operations, availability monitoring, and on-call rotations.
  • Establish and advocate code review and architectural design standards across the team.
  • Mentor and develop engineering team members.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience operating large-scale database deployments in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of distributed database architecture, data modeling, SQL tuning, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
  • Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL.
  • Demonstrated experience building database automation tooling (provisioning, failover, upgrades, migrations) on Kubernetes.
  • Proven ability to perform zero-downtime migrations and major version upgrades.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes networking, service discovery, and TLS encryption.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Expertise with distributed SQL databases and technologies such as TiDB alongside MySQL.
