About the Role

The Senior Database Platform Engineer will work as part of a team to create and refine innovative solutions to empower our business. This multi-discipline role enables the business and technology teams to leverage various data platform technologies at a high level. In this role, the Engineer will enable users to provision, analyze, and consume data via performant, secure, and scalable database platforms.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and automate database platform provisioning, configuration, monitoring, issue remediation, and security.
  • Apply expert understanding and troubleshooting of complex database systems.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain best practice standards around code quality, deployment, security, architecture, and automation.
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to accomplish engineering project goals.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Database Engineering: 10+ years of experience engineering for database engines (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Snowflake).
  • Scripting: 10+ years of experience programming interpreted scripting languages (Python and/or PowerShell).
  • Cloud Platforms: 7+ years of experience working with cloud platforms across various cloud service providers (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, RDS, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).
  • Query Languages: 8+ years of experience using SQL or NoSQL-based languages.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): 8+ years of experience using and developing with configuration management products and applying IaC principles (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell DSC, Puppet, Chef, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Containers: 5+ years of experience working with containerized platforms.
  • Engine Internals: Expert knowledge of relevant database platform engine internals, infrastructure, and concepts.
  • CI/CD & SDLC: Expert knowledge of CI/CD and SDLC workflows (e.g., JIRA, Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Liquibase, Jenkins, Octopus, DbUp, etc.).
  • Messaging & APIs: Experience working with Kafka, as well as developing with and on REST APIs and other non-DB direct interfaces.
  • Engineering Standards & Communication: High bar for database platform architecture and security solutions; strong engineering mindset across all aspects of the role; excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences and advocate for technical recommendations.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Experience working with or interest in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, C++, etc.).
