About the Role

Peraton’s Space & Intelligence Sector is looking for a highly motivated Senior Database Engineer to join our team in Herndon, VA. The selected candidate will work within a Production Operations team, supporting data management processes, database engineering, and management—including deploying, maintaining, tuning, and enhancing database systems in a critical national security environment.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

• Database Engineering and Management: Perform activities associated with high-volume, multi-format data management services.
• Solution Maintenance: Maintain large-scale data management solutions, including developing efficient storage, indexing, and access approaches.
• Architecture Updates: Update data enterprise architecture models and data abstraction layers to enable access to new data sources.
• Strategy Implementation: Design and implement indexing strategies for ingested data and develop strategies for continuous performance tuning of databases.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 6+ years, or a PhD with 3+ years of experience (an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
• Core Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with Postgres (PostgreSQL), SQL, and database performance tuning.
• Operational Experience: Experience installing application software in an operational environment.
• Methodologies & Tools: Familiarity with Agile, AWS, RDBMS technology, Elasticsearch, and Linux.
• Certifications & Clearance: DoD IAT Level II certification and an active TS/SCI with the ability to obtain a polygraph.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

• Familiarity with NoSQL technology (Hadoop and/or EMR).
• Familiarity with Graph database technology.
• Data modeling experience.
