We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Database Administrator who has managed databases at scale. As a senior member of the Mark43 team, you will take ownership of our database infrastructure, ensure the stability, performance, and monitoring of production databases, and serve as a trusted knowledge resource for engineering teams writing performant queries.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

• Database Monitoring & Reliability: Ensure production databases are properly monitored and alerted, proactively identifying and resolving issues before customer impact.
• Engine Tuning & Configuration: Review and optimize MySQL configurations to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability across production environments.
• Query Optimization & Schema Design: Identify problematic queries using execution plans and indexing strategies, partnering with software engineers to refine database schemas and query patterns.
• Automation & Operations: Automate routine database maintenance and operational tasks using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to streamline management at scale.
• Capacity Planning & Upgrades: Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and configuration changes while monitoring capacity and performance trends to anticipate growth.
• Disaster Recovery & Documentation: Strengthen backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) processes, validating recovery points and updating operational runbooks.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience administering MySQL or similar relational databases in production.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Solid experience administering cloud-hosted databases on AWS (e.g., AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora) or Azure Databases.
• Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with Terraform and cloud infrastructure automation.
• Database Operations: Deep technical understanding of database internals, query optimization, backup/restore procedures, and automated testing.
• Architecture: Knowledge or experience with microservices architecture and agile methodologies.
• Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the country of application (US, Canada, or UK); sponsorship is not available.
