About the Role

Mathnasium is seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator to join its corporate headquarters team in Los Angeles, CA. In this role, you will maintain and optimize mission-critical data infrastructure, support the global franchise network, and ensure database scalability, high availability, and performance across cloud and relational database environments.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Database Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain high-performance relational and cloud database systems including AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize query performance, conduct capacity planning, and ensure database scalability to support rapid business growth.
  • Production Support: Provide hands-on production support, responding promptly to urgent database issues, troubleshooting incidents, and minimizing downtime.
  • System Monitoring: Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, proactively monitor system health, and ensure database stability and reliability.
  • Data Governance: Develop and enforce database governance, security policies, and compliance standards.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Plan and execute robust backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies.
  • CI/CD Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering and development teams on database changes, release processes, version control, and CI/CD deployment practices.
  • Data Integration: Lead data migration, integration, and ETL pipeline development.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in production database administration, architecture, and performance tuning.
  • Cloud & Relational Databases: Strong proficiency with cloud database platforms including AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, Redshift, and DynamoDB.
  • Production Troubleshooting: Hands-on experience troubleshooting production database incidents and resolving complex reliability challenges.
  • Operational Reliability: Deep expertise in database monitoring, backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability solutions.
  • DevOps Practices: Familiarity with CI/CD tools, version control systems, and Agile development environments.
  • Core Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
