About the Role

AutoTec is seeking a dedicated Senior Database Administrator to serve as the organization’s database expert in Birmingham, AL. In this role, you will take full ownership of the health, performance, security, and recoverability of AWS RDS Aurora Serverless v2 (PostgreSQL) and Microsoft SQL Server platforms, collaborating with the data team to build robust operational automation and runbooks.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary database expert owning database health, availability, performance, and recoverability.
  • Manage and maintain AWS RDS Aurora Serverless v2 (PostgreSQL) environments alongside on-premises database systems.
  • Execute deep technical database operations, including version upgrades, high availability configurations, and recovery drills.
  • Author operational runbooks, configure proactive monitoring, and implement automation scripts to safeguard database infrastructure.
  • Support data lake and analytics pipelines across AWS services including S3, Glue, Athena, and QuickSight.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members on database administration practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated senior-level experience in database administration and operations.
  • Deep hands-on expertise administering PostgreSQL (specifically AWS RDS Aurora Serverless v2).
  • Strong track record in executing database upgrades, high availability architecture, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience developing operational monitoring, health checks, and automation runbooks.
  • Familiarity with cloud data architectures and AWS services.
