About the Role

Gatekeeper Systems is a global leader in retail loss prevention and customer safety, utilizing physical deterrents, AI, and computer vision technologies. Gatekeeper Systems is seeking a Senior Data and Platform Engineer in Foothill Ranch, CA to own core backend data infrastructure. This hands-on role spans operational PostgreSQL database administration on Google Cloud SQL, cloud data warehouse architecture, and customer-facing API platforms.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Own operational PostgreSQL database systems end-to-end, including schema design, migration tracking, connection pooling, indexing, and high availability.
  • Manage point-in-time recovery (PITR), automated backup routines, and read replica configurations on Google Cloud SQL.
  • Implement multi-tenant data isolation, row-level security policies, and granular database access controls.
  • Design and maintain layered cloud data warehouse architecture in BigQuery for analytics and intelligence reporting.
  • Build and operate REST and GraphQL APIs connecting operational datastores with client applications.
  • Maintain GCP cloud infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Secret Manager, and VPC Service Controls.
  • Troubleshoot production data platform incidents, execute root-cause analyses, and mentor development teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on backend data engineering experience with direct ownership of production data infrastructure.
  • Deep expertise in PostgreSQL administration, query optimization, connection pooling, indexing, and managed cloud operations.
  • Strong practical experience managing GCP environments (Cloud SQL, BigQuery, IAM, VPC, and Cloud Build).
  • Proficiency in Python for backend development and automation workflows.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
  • Proven track record implementing multi-tenant architectures and database security controls.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Go (Golang) and real-time streaming architectures.
  • Experience with real-time OLAP datastores such as ClickHouse or Apache Pinot.
  • Experience using dbt or Dataform for data transformation workflows.
