About the Role

Prophecy Technologies is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our Information Technology team. The ideal candidate will bring enterprise-level PostgreSQL infrastructure administration experience, with PostgreSQL serving as their core skill and primary area of expertise. This on-site role involves managing database architecture, driving performance optimization, maintaining high-availability clusters, and leading production troubleshooting.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Manage PostgreSQL architecture and configuration for optimal performance.
  • Conduct routine backup and recovery operations, including Barman backup administration and recovery procedures.
  • Tune database performance and optimize queries.
  • Troubleshoot production incidents and perform root cause analysis.
  • Handle production failovers, replication issues, and cluster synchronization issues.
  • Administer PostgreSQL patching, major/minor version upgrades, cluster maintenance, and migrations.
  • Implement and maintain High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) setups across enterprise environments.
  • Support large-scale production PostgreSQL environments.
  • Automate and streamline operational support tasks, including change management and routine maintenance activities.
  • Manage and monitor database health using PEM (Postgres Enterprise Manager).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of primary, hands-on PostgreSQL DBA experience (PostgreSQL must be the core skill and primary area of expertise).
  • Strong knowledge and experience in:
    • PostgreSQL Architecture and Internals
    • Backup and Recovery processes
    • Performance Tuning and Query Optimization
    • Production Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
    • PostgreSQL Patching, Upgrades, and Migrations
    • High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • Strong enterprise-level PostgreSQL Infrastructure Administration experience.
  • Solid experience with BSR, PGD/BDR, Barman, PEM, patching, upgrades, and production support.
  • Hands-on experience with both BSR (Streaming Replication) and PGD/BDR clusters.
  • Strong experience with Barman backup administration and recovery procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of PEM for monitoring and database administration.
  • Proven experience performing major/minor version upgrades, patching activities, and cluster maintenance.
  • Strong Linux administration skills.
  • Operational support experience, including change management, maintenance activities, and automation.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Scripting experience (Shell/Python preferred).
