Workplace Type: On-site
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay / Compensation: $100,000-$120,000 a year
About the Role
Tata Consultancy Services is seeking a top-tier, senior Database Administrator specializing in database performance engineering, scalability testing, workload analysis, and bottleneck identification within mission-critical transactional systems. This is a highly specialized role requiring deep expertise in optimizing MariaDB and MySQL environments under heavy load conditions, rather than a generalist DBA position.
What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities
- Performance & Load Testing Leadership: Lead database performance and load testing efforts across large-scale transactional platforms, designing and executing stress, endurance, and scalability tests.
- Query & Index Optimization: Analyze and tune database behavior, optimizing SQL queries, indexes, schema design, and configurations to improve performance.
- Troubleshooting & Remediation: Investigate lock contention, deadlocks, slow queries, replication delays, and resource bottlenecks.
- Monitoring & Observability: Monitor database saturation metrics including active connections, query throughput, disk IOPS, CPU/memory utilization, and buffer pool efficiency using modern monitoring tools.
- Scaling Strategies: Partner with engineering teams to provide recommendations for database scaling, including instance sizing upgrades, read replicas, schema separation, partitioning, and sharding approaches.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on database performance engineering.
- Extensive hands-on experience administering and optimizing MariaDB and MySQL environments.
- Proven experience supporting Performance & Load Testing initiatives for high-volume transactional systems.
- Strong expertise with performance testing tools such as k6, Locust, or Gatling.
- Deep understanding of query optimization, index optimization, execution plan analysis, and replication performance tuning.
- Strong Linux administration and automation experience.
- Experience working in cloud-native and Kubernetes-based environments with observability platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)
- Preference for familiarity with k6 load-testing frameworks.
- Strong technical leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
Benefits & Perks (if applicable)
- Competitive salary range of $100,000 – $120,000 per year.
