About the Role

Probity is seeking a highly experienced Database Engineer with deep expertise across relational database technologies in on-premises and cloud environments. In this role, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), leading database modernization, engineering design, high availability architecture, and operational excellence initiatives across defense and intelligence systems.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for enterprise relational database technologies.
  • Document and analyze current-state database environments and develop engineering design documents for modernization and optimization.
  • Lead implementation of enhanced future-state database architectures across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Design, deploy, configure, optimize, secure, and maintain relational database platforms.
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, security hardening, and compliance adherence.
  • Provide database governance, standards, and best practices across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure, network, storage, systems, DevOps, and application engineering teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience engineering and administering relational database technologies.
  • Hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle Database, and Microsoft SQL Server across on-premises and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proven mastery in database architecture, High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Strong database security, encryption, and compliance capabilities.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows server environments alongside scripting automation in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Database containerization experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Redgate, OEM, cloud-native tools).
  • Knowledge of data replication, distributed systems, and data warehousing platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and configuration management (Ansible, Puppet).
  • Familiarity with federal government compliance frameworks and Zero Trust architectures.
