About the Role

Experity is looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to design, implement, optimize, and support cloud-native database platforms, focusing primarily on Aurora PostgreSQL and MySQL running on AWS RDS. In this role, you will act as a technical leader in database reliability and performance, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security for mission-critical SaaS databases.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL databases across AWS RDS and Aurora environments.
  • Manage MySQL parameter groups, option groups, automated snapshots, maintenance windows, and backups.
  • Architect high availability solutions leveraging Multi-AZ deployments, read replicas, clustering, and writer/reader endpoints.
  • Monitor and resolve replication lag across replicas to maintain read consistency and throughput.
  • Tune database parameters and optimize Aurora storage architecture, autovacuum behavior, and checkpointing.
  • Optimize database indexing, query execution plans, and MySQL InnoDB configuration for high-throughput production workloads.
  • Monitor database performance and diagnose contention issues (locking, blocking, connection saturation) using CloudWatch, DataDog, and native utilities (pg_stat_statements, EXPLAIN).
  • Implement robust backup and disaster recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery (PITR) and cross-region resilience.
  • Partner with engineering teams to optimize schema design, query patterns, and data access efficiency.
  • Automate database provisioning, patching, version upgrades, and routine operations using Infrastructure-as-Code and scripting.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of database administration experience, with 3+ years dedicated to PostgreSQL in high-volume OLTP production environments.
  • 2+ years of operational experience administering MySQL in production, preferably on AWS RDS.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and AWS RDS MySQL.
  • In-depth understanding of PostgreSQL internals (query planner, vacuuming, WAL, replication) and MySQL architecture (InnoDB, replication, indexing).
  • Proven track record tuning high-availability, high-throughput systems handling significant transaction volumes (100-200+ TPS).
  • Proficiency with AWS cloud infrastructure (RDS, Aurora, EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, CloudWatch) and DataDog.
  • Experience with automation (Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting languages (Python, Bash).
