About the Role

O’Reilly Auto Parts is hiring an on-site Database Administrator III (PostgreSQL) in Springfield, MO. This role designs, implements, and supports enterprise PostgreSQL databases, data warehouses, and data marts in Linux environments, ensuring high availability, continuous performance optimization, robust security, and reliable disaster recovery.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Administer enterprise PostgreSQL databases in on-premises Linux environments.
  • Perform database and SQL tuning based on application telemetry and user feedback to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Drive standardization and build automation workflows for routine maintenance, deployments, and monitoring.
  • Align database changes with organizational change management and governance protocols.
  • Implement security controls including RBAC, ACLs, and audit logging; investigate security anomalies.
  • Ensure databases meet SLA-driven recovery targets through regular backup, restore, and disaster recovery drills.
  • Design database resource distribution and execute physical modeling for optimum performance and scalability.
  • Create and maintain technical runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational documentation.
  • Mentor junior database administrators and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on database administration experience managing enterprise production environments.
  • Strong hands-on PostgreSQL administration, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning in Linux environments.
  • Proven expertise in physical database design, index optimization, query tuning, and storage allocation.
  • In-depth working knowledge of backup and restore strategies, replication, clustering, and failover mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated scripting ability to automate routine DBA tasks and deployments.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Multi-platform relational database experience (MySQL, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Professional cloud database certifications (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure SQL).
