About the Role

Avid Technology Professionals is seeking an experienced Database Administrator 2 to join a mission-focused team in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will support, maintain, and optimize database systems including MariaDB, Oracle, and MS SQL across critical program environments.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Support and administer MariaDB, Oracle, and MS SQL database environments.
  • Manage database indexes, tuning, and ongoing performance optimization.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across database instances and integrated applications.
  • Oversee and execute backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell or Python scripting.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in support of the program mission.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of experience as a Database Administrator on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university (4 years of additional DBA experience may be substituted for a degree).
  • Compliance with DoD 8570.01-M with a minimum certification of IAT Level II (e.g., Security+, CCNA-Security, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).
  • Demonstrable experience supporting MariaDB, Oracle, and/or MS SQL databases.
  • Hands-on experience with index and performance management, instance troubleshooting, and backup/recovery processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AWS cloud services, specifically Amazon RDS.
  • Experience with PowerShell and/or Python scripting for database task automation.
  • Exposure to Commvault enterprise backup solutions.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • Familiarity with Windows Event Log Filtering and Windows Task Scheduler setup and management.
  • Experience supporting databases for SharePoint implementations.
