Job Description
Company: GovWell
Location: New York City, New York
Workplace Type: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay / Compensation: $130K – $240K
About the Role
GovWell is building an AI operating system to transform how governments serve communities by replacing legacy software for municipalities and counties. As a Data Solutions Engineer, you own the critical moment of data migration, turning messy, real-world legacy data (from Access, CSVs, etc.) into clean, trusted production data within GovWell.
What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities
- Own data migrations end-to-end, working with government staff to configure schema mappings and ingestion settings.
- Be the gatekeeper for data quality, identifying gaps and inconsistencies in legacy data before production.
- Be the technical face of onboarding, leading customer calls to explain data requirements and tradeoffs to non-technical staff.
- Make the process better by using internal tools and playbooks to ensure migrations are predictable and repeatable.
- Close the feedback loop with Product and Engineering, documenting recurring issues to drive platform evolution.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Required 2-4 years of hands-on experience in data migrations, ETL/ELT, or a closely related role with messy, real-world production data.
- Strong SQL proficiency used in practice for analysis, validation, reconciliation, and transformation work.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a Python codebase day-to-day (reading, debugging, and shipping changes via PRs).
- Experience translating ambiguous stakeholder requirements into concrete, testable migration/implementation plans.
- Track record of operating in execution-heavy environments with high ownership and attention to correctness.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)
- Experience with workflow orchestration and pipeline operations (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect).
- Experience with customer-facing implementation/onboarding work, explaining constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with geospatial data concepts or GIS tooling (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Experience in B2B SaaS where data correctness materially impacts user workflows.
Benefits & Perks (if applicable)
- Competitive base salary
- Equity / stock options
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) program
