About the Role

Rincon Research Corporation (RRC), an employee-owned defense technology leader, is seeking an Advanced Database Engineer to design, deploy, and scale cutting-edge database systems. Working with multidisciplinary engineering teams across Chantilly, VA, Centennial, CO, or Tucson, AZ, you will architect robust data solutions supporting national security, digital signal processing, and geolocation missions.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, implement, test, and maintain operational database solutions supporting complex mission applications.
  • Deploy, administer, manage, and scale enterprise PostgreSQL database clusters across Linux environments.
  • Execute database performance tuning, indexing strategies, backup routines, recovery procedures, and fail-over mechanisms.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines, large-scale data management workflows, and ETL processes.
  • Integrate modern database tooling and experiment with innovative technologies to enhance system capabilities.
  • Collaborate with project leaders and mentor junior engineering staff.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance and U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or data management.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying, administering, and scaling enterprise PostgreSQL database systems on Linux.
  • Hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL performance tuning, backup, recovery, and fail-over architectures.
  • Scripting proficiency in SQL, Python, and Linux shell environments.
  • Experience with large data management architectures and ETL concepts.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • DevOps and cloud container experience (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Gitlab).
  • Experience with spatial database extensions such as PostGIS, QGIS, or GeoServer.
  • Experience with multi-database environments (Oracle, Citus Data, MS SQL Server, Redis, MongoDB).
  • Observability and metrics experience with Grafana or Kibana.
