About the Role

The Senior Data Platform Engineer serves as Sola’s primary database administrator and data platform engineer within the DevSecOps team. This hands-on role owns the production databases supporting analytics, transactional, and caching layers, operating within a PCI DSS and SOC 2 regulated payments environment.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Own the performance, availability, and cost of the Amazon Redshift data warehouse, including WLM and distribution key design.
  • Administer and tune production relational databases, including MySQL/Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL, covering backup, recovery, CDC, and high availability.
  • Lead schema design and standards for PostgreSQL supporting newer services.
  • Design DynamoDB table structures and tune ElastiCache (Redis) for caching layers.
  • Own warehouse ingestion pipelines using AWS DMS, Glue jobs, and Step Functions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on database administration experience across relational and NoSQL technologies.
  • Strong MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server administration skills, including backup and restore, replication and CDC.
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, with the ability to lead schema design and administration.
  • At least 2 years of production Amazon Redshift experience.
  • Experience in PCI DSS or SOC 2 regulated environments.
  • Solid AWS proficiency across the console and CLI (IAM, CloudWatch, VPC, RDS, S3).

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Experience with Cube.js or a comparable semantic layer.
  • Infrastructure as code experience, preferably Terraform.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and database change management tools such as Flyway or Liquibase.
