About the Role

Mirantis is a Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure company enabling organizations to build and operate scalable, secure, and sovereign infrastructure for modern AI, machine learning, and data-intensive applications. This role focuses on running the PostgreSQL and Apache Kafka platform behind k0rdent-ai, requiring a hands-on DevOps / SRE approach for stateful systems.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Run PostgreSQL and Kafka on Kubernetes: Deploy, upgrade, scale, and operate CloudNativePG and Strimzi clusters using Helm charts and operator custom resources.
  • GitOps & Infrastructure as Code: Manage infrastructure declaratively with Argo CD or Flux, Helm, and Terraform; build CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and operate high availability within regions and cross-region disaster recovery for PostgreSQL replica clusters, ensuring defined RPO/RTO targets.
  • Self-Service Platform: Enable product teams to self-service provisioning of databases, users, and topics through code.
  • Observability & Operations: Build monitoring and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry for replication lag and consumer lag; participate in on-call duties.
  • Data Movement & CDC: Operate outbox and change-data-capture pipelines using Debezium and Kafka Connect for data consistency.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 8+ years in DevOps, SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including 3+ years running stateful systems (databases or message streaming) in production.
  • Strong hands-on Kubernetes operations on cloud and/or bare-metal clusters (StatefulSets, persistent volumes, network policies).
  • Production experience running PostgreSQL through Kubernetes operators (CloudNativePG, etc.), including replication and failover, backup and point-in-time recovery, and connection pooling (PgBouncer).
  • Practical Kafka Operations experience (brokers, topics, replication, consumer groups, capacity planning).
  • Proven ability in designing and testing high availability and disaster recovery for stateful systems with defined RPO/RTO.
  • Strong scripting and programming in Go (preferred) or Python, plus Bash.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Experience with cross-region replication (CloudNativePG replica clusters, Kafka MirrorMaker 2) and global/regional multi-site architectures.
  • Familiarity with Debezium, Kafka Connect, and transactional outbox / CDC patterns.
  • Identity integration for data platforms (Keycloak, OIDC, LDAP/Active Directory).
  • Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics).
  • Secrets and security tooling (Vault/OpenBao, cert-manager, mTLS).
  • Contributions to CloudNativePG or Strimzi open-source projects.
