About the Role

As a Database Engineer, you will design, build, and operate scalable, secure data stores that power our applications and analytics. You will partner closely with application and data teams to shape schemas, tune performance, and automate operations using AWS and infrastructure-as-code. Your work will improve reliability, reduce cost, and accelerate delivery from development through production.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

• Design & Development: Design and develop efficient, scalable database solutions aligned to business requirements.
• Software Management: Install, configure, and upgrade database software and related tooling.
• Performance Tuning: Monitor performance and optimize queries, indexes, and schemas for reliability and speed.
• Security Implementation: Implement and maintain database security controls to protect sensitive data.
• Developer Collaboration: Collaborate with application developers to optimize schema designs and SQL.
• Incident Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot incidents and provide timely resolution across environments.
• Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation for architecture, configuration, and runbooks.
• Capacity Planning: Perform capacity planning and recommend infrastructure improvements.
• Cloud Operations: Manage and support AWS database infrastructure (e.g., RDS/Aurora/Redshift).

Requirements & Qualifications

• Proven Experience: Proven experience as a Database Engineer/DBA designing and operating scalable data stores.
• DBMS Knowledge: Deep knowledge of DBMSs such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and related database technologies.
• SQL Proficiency: Proficiency in SQL and query optimization, performance tuning, and monitoring.
• Data Modeling: Solid grasp of data modeling, normalization, and schema design principles.
• Operational Procedures: Understanding of backup/restore and disaster recovery procedures, as well as database security best practices.
• Cloud & IaC: Strong understanding of AWS and IaC (Infrastructure-as-Code) for database resources.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

• Hands-on experience with managed cloud database services including Amazon RDS, Aurora, and Redshift.
