About the Role

Reflexive Concepts is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join our team. Specifically, the DEFSMAC team is seeking a Database Engineer with experience in PostgreSQL and PostGIS. Note: This position requires an in-scope polygraph (within 7 years). For qualified candidates, the labor category level for this position may be flexible.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Database Architecture & Optimization: Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas, indexes, and queries for performance and scalability.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor and tune database performance using native tools and custom scripts.
  • High Availability: Implement and maintain high availability (HA) and replication strategies.
  • Developer Collaboration: Collaborate with developers to refine complex queries and stored procedures.
  • Automation: Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Documentation: Document database architecture, processes, and best practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a Database Engineer (DBE) in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity. (Note: Five [5] years of additional DBE experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Core Database Skills: Experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS, strong SQL skills, and experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Environment: Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and CLI tools like psql.
  • Operations: Experience with logical and physical replication, partitioning, and backup strategies.
  • Monitoring & Scripting: Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., pg_stat_statements, Prometheus, Grafana) and knowledge of scripting languages for automation.
  • Security Clearance: In-scope polygraph within the last 7 years is strictly required.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernates).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Exposure to other RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, MySQL) or NoSQL systems.
