Job Description
Company: Triumph
Location: San Francisco, CA
Workplace Type: On-site
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay / Compensation: $200K – $400K
About the Role
As Triumph’s first dedicated Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll own the foundation that everything else runs on. Until now, our infrastructure has been built and maintained by the core engineering team alongside everything else — you’ll be the first person whose entire mandate is to make it fast, observable, and bulletproof. Our platform touches gaming, finance, and social at scale, which means there’s no margin for downtime. This is a greenfield mandate: you’re not inheriting an infra org, you’re starting one. As we scale toward our next order of magnitude of growth, you’ll set the standards every future infrastructure hire builds on.
What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities
- Establish Infrastructure Standards: Set the standards, tooling, and practices that the team and future hires will build on for Triumph’s infrastructure function.
- Manage CI/CD Pipelines: Own and evolve our CI/CD pipelines, making it fast and safe for a growing team to ship continuously.
- Scale Backend Systems: Take end-to-end ownership of scaling backend systems, identifying bottlenecks before they become incidents and designing for the next 10x growth.
- Drive Database Strategy: Act as a deep Postgres expert overseeing query optimization, connection pooling, replication and read routing, schema evolution, and maintaining high-traffic data paths under load.
- Build Observability: Implement comprehensive observability and telemetry including metrics, tracing, structured logging, and meaningful alerting for real-time system visibility.
- Harden Core Systems: Partner with backend engineers to harden core business systems through robust incident response and preventative architectural decisions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Production Systems Experience: Strong experience operating and scaling large production systems with a proven track record of true operational ownership.
- Postgres Expertise: Deep Postgres knowledge with a strong understanding of query planning, indexing, connection management, and failure modes at scale.
- CI/CD Experience: Hands-on experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Observability Fluency: Fluency with observability and telemetry tooling, possessing a clear instinct for critical metrics.
- Autonomous Execution: Comfort being the first and only person in a function, demonstrating high agency and the ability to drive work to completion without a predefined playbook.
