About the Role

Tata Consultancy Services is looking for a Database Administrator to manage, optimize, and support enterprise database environments. In this role, you will be responsible for PostgreSQL administration, advanced SQL performance tuning, database design, and robust data integration workflows across development, test, and production environments.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Database Administration: Administer, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL databases across multiple environments.
  • Performance Tuning: Review and optimize complex SQL queries, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers; analyze execution plans to resolve query bottlenecks, locking, blocking, and long-running transactions.
  • Operations & Recovery: Manage backup, restore, point-in-time recovery, replication, high availability, and failover processes while regularly validating recoverability.
  • Capacity & Maintenance: Perform capacity planning, storage management, routine maintenance, and proactive monitoring to ensure optimal availability and scalability.
  • Data Modeling & Design: Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models, applying normalization, denormalization, and referential-integrity standards.
  • ETL & Data Integration: Design, develop, schedule, and support ETL workflows, data mapping, cleansing, transformation, validation, and error-handling processes.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain robust database security controls covering roles, privileges, authentication, encryption, and auditing.
  • Incident Support: Troubleshoot database and ETL incidents, perform root-cause analysis, implement permanent fixes, and maintain operational runbooks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in advanced SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Proven experience installing, configuring, upgrading, and patching PostgreSQL databases.
  • Demonstrated track record managing backup, recovery, and replication in production settings.
  • Familiarity with ETL development, data pipelines, and batch-load performance optimization.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work alongside application, infrastructure, and business teams.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Experience with change-data-capture (CDC) patterns and incremental-load strategies.
  • Background in multi-database environments or cloud-hosted database administration.
