About the Role

Northrop Grumman is seeking a level 2 or 3 Database Administrator / Software Engineer with strong PostgreSQL experience to join the Aurora Software department. In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain backend databases and stored procedures, make key technical decisions, and collaborate closely with cross-functional Agile engineering teams.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain production and test PostgreSQL databases.
  • Architect and maintain database instances across multiple runtime environments.
  • Guide and support database deployments using Docker Swarm and containerization tooling.
  • Provide operational DBA support, investigating production incidents and executing corrective actions.
  • Design and implement database access layers and automation tooling in Python.
  • Define engineering best practices for database code, procedure standards, testing, and reviews.
  • Collaborate across Agile teams using GitLab CI/CD, Jira, and Confluence.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in Science with 2+ years of experience (or Master’s degree; or 6+ years relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in Science with 5+ years of experience (or Master’s with 3+ years; or 9+ years relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at time of application.
  • Significant hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, SQL tuning, indexing, and migrations.
  • Proficiency in Python and working in Linux operating environments.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab version control and CI/CD development lifecycles.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Docker image builds and Docker Swarm orchestration.
  • Familiarity with Rust for performance-critical database components.
  • Experience or certification as a Scrum Master.
