About the Role

Visa is a world leader in payments technology. As a Software Development Engineer on the Product Reliability Engineering (PRE) team, you will be building, automating, and evolving critical distributed systems that process billions of real-time transactions, treating infrastructure as code and reliability as a product.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Design and ship end-to-end automation for deployment pipelines and infrastructure provisioning using Python and Go/Bash.
  • Manage & Evolve Data Platforms, including contributing to schema design and performing database health operations (patching, upgrades, backups, recovery).
  • Optimize query performance through index tuning, execution plan analysis, and replication monitoring on tier-1 production databases.
  • Build predictive and reactive monitoring dashboards using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or ELK.
  • Ship Agentic AI & ML-Powered Tools to automate deployment orchestration and transform reactive operations into proactive, AI-driven intelligence.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in Python and comfort writing scripts in at least one additional language (Go, Java, or Bash).
  • Foundational understanding of relational databases (RDBMS): SQL, data modeling, query optimization, and database connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and meaningful command-line fluency.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of CI/CD principles and modern software delivery pipelines.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools: Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi.
  • Experience with database CI/CD tooling, particularly Liquibase for schema change management.
  • Database administration exposure: backup/recovery procedures, performance tuning, index management, or replication monitoring.
  • Genuine curiosity about GenAI platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, LangChain).
