Job Description

Company: Robinhood
Location: Bellevue, WA
Workplace Type: On-site
Employment Type: Contract
Pay / Compensation: $196,000-$230,000 USD

About the Role

Join Robinhood’s Capacity & Efficiency Engineering team to build software that manages, governs, and reduces AWS cloud spend across compute, databases, and storage, operating at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, data engineering, and FinOps.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Build forecast-driven capacity planning for the storage and database fleet, scaling up and down based on market events.
  • Design and build a capacity planner for Aurora that sets reader counts and writer instance sizes from demand signals (IOPS, CPU, connections).
  • Rightsize databases, caches, and block storage (RDS, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, EBS) on instance size and provisioned IOPS.
  • Own S3 efficiency at scale, managing storage class, Intelligent-Tiering, and lifecycle policies.
  • Take recommendations to closed-loop automation with guardrails, progressive rollout, and rollback in production.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Deep hands-on experience operating AWS storage and databases at scale, especially Aurora or RDS (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and S3.
  • Proven capacity planning and forecasting experience: modeling time-series demand and translating traffic into instance counts.
  • Track record of rightsizing infrastructure from utilization data (CPU, memory, IOPS, throughput) without impacting latency or availability.
  • Strong Python or Go engineering, with experience building automation that safely modifies production infrastructure.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Familiarity with AWS storage and database pricing (S3 storage classes, Aurora I/O-Optimized vs. Standard, Reserved Instances).
  • Experience with bursty, event-driven workloads (trading, payments) or with Spark, Airflow, or Kubernetes.

Benefits & Perks (if applicable)

  • Performance-driven compensation with bonus programs, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching.
  • 100% paid health insurance for employees (90% coverage for dependents).
  • Lifestyle wallet for wellness and learning.
  • Paid time off, sick time, parental leave, and exceptional office experience with catered meals.
