About the Role

Allstate is seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join the Database Engineering team. This role is crucial for building, operating, and modernizing the enterprise PostgreSQL platform across on-premises and cloud environments.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • PostgreSQL Platform Engineering: Design, build, deploy, administer, and support enterprise PostgreSQL environments.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Design and support HA solutions using Patroni, etcd, HAProxy, and implement multi-site disaster-recovery strategies.
  • Backup and Recovery: Design, implement, and operate enterprise pgBackRest solutions, including point-in-time recovery and WAL archiving.
  • Performance and Reliability: Monitor availability, analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and execution plans, and troubleshoot complex production incidents.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement database security controls, access-management standards, and least-privilege practices.
  • Automation and DevOps: Develop automation for provisioning and operations using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience supporting mission-critical production environments.
  • Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, internals, configuration, security, and performance tuning.
  • Strong Linux administration skills (RHEL preferred) and proficiency in SQL query optimization and execution-plan analysis.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database, operating system, storage, and connectivity issues in production environments.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • Experience with Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL or Percona-supported environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Patroni, etcd, HAProxy, Keepalived, pgBackRest.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with observability platforms like Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana.
