About the Role

SDH Systems is seeking a Senior MySQL DBA for a 100% remote, 12-month W2 contract role. The DBA will manage and optimize production and non-production MySQL databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and disaster readiness.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and optimize MySQL database systems across production and non-production environments.
  • Handle database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and migrations.
  • Manage MySQL replication, High Availability (HA) architectures, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Perform proactive performance tuning, query optimization, execution plan analysis, and lock/deadlock diagnostics.
  • Oversee backup and recovery operations utilizing MySQL Enterprise Backup and Percona XtraBackup.
  • Implement security best practices, user privilege management, and role-based access control.
  • Develop scripts to automate routine operational tasks and database monitoring routines.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of dedicated database administration experience with MySQL.
  • Deep expertise in MySQL replication, clustering, and high availability frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency in backup, restore, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing complex slow queries, execution plans, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages for administration, automation, and alerting.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AWS RDS / Aurora MySQL.
  • Experience with MySQL Group Replication, InnoDB Cluster, ProxySQL, or Percona Toolkit.
