About the Role

Sprouts Farmers Market is seeking a Platform Architect based at our Phoenix, AZ Support Office. In this role, you will own the architecture and evolution of our enterprise data platform across on-premises environments and cloud database platforms including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. You will serve as the technical authority for data platforms, driving DataOps practices, cloud-native replication, and high-availability systems.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the enterprise data architecture roadmap, aligning database strategy with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the architectural design and governance of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and relational platforms across environments.
  • Architect and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including clustering, failover mechanisms, and cloud-native replication.
  • Drive DataOps adoption by embedding database deployments into CI/CD pipelines and provisioning resources via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep).
  • Lead performance engineering initiatives, including proactive query tuning, index strategy, workload management, and multi-TB capacity planning.
  • Automate operational database processes such as monitoring, alerting, backup validation, and routine maintenance using PowerShell or Python.
  • Partner with engineering teams on complex schema designs, API data patterns, and migration architectures.
  • Provide escalation support for critical production incidents and participate in 24×7 on-call rotation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of enterprise relational database experience, with at least 3 years in an architect or lead capacity.
  • 5+ years of experience working with large-scale databases (5TB+) in high-availability configurations.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with cloud database platforms and open-source RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Proficiency with open-source RDBMS platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB) covering replication, extensions, and query optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating DataOps pipelines with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Bicep) for database provisioning.
  • Strong automation scripting skills in PowerShell and Python.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications (DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900).
  • Experience with data catalog and governance tools (Purview, Collibra).
  • Familiarity with modern ETL/ELT tooling (dbt, Azure Data Factory, SSIS).
