About the Role

Slalom is a global business and technology consulting firm delivering innovative solutions for enterprise clients. Slalom is seeking a Senior Database Migration Engineer to support an AI-driven modernization platform that accelerates enterprise database transformations. In this role, you will act as a technical authority designing, validating, and executing complex migrations from legacy database systems to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and execute database migration strategies transitioning legacy database engines to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Implement and manage AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) pipelines.
  • Resolve migration bottlenecks involving stored procedures, triggers, complex SQL dialects, and schema transformations.
  • Configure and validate Change Data Capture (CDC) replication streams and full-load migration patterns.
  • Conduct database performance evaluations, query tuning, and index optimization for newly migrated workloads.
  • Coordinate with client DBAs and application stakeholders to ensure smooth cutover planning and rollback readiness.
  • Create reusable migration templates, reconciliation playbooks, and automated validation frameworks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in database administration, database engineering, or migration programs.
  • Deep hands-on experience with legacy database engines including Oracle, IBM DB2, or Sybase ASE.
  • Demonstrated track record leading heterogeneous database migrations to PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • In-depth proficiency with AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) and AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
  • Solid understanding of relational database architecture, SQL optimization, and query execution plans.
  • Strong SQL scripting skills and automated data reconciliation experience.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or specialized database certifications.
  • Experience delivering enterprise cloud migration initiatives in regulated industries such as finance.
  • Exposure to AI-driven migration automation tools and agent-based code transformation frameworks.
