A healthcare technology organization is hiring two Senior Database Engineers to support and modernize a business-critical database environment.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with deep Microsoft SQL Server experience who also understands cloud database environments. The organization is beginning a longer-term modernization initiative that will move database workloads into AWS and increasingly leverage managed and PostgreSQL-based database technologies.

The successful candidate will combine strong production DBA fundamentals with cloud engineering, automation, observability, performance optimization, and migration experience.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

  • Engineer and support highly available, business-critical SQL Server database environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex database performance, locking, blocking, resource, connectivity, and availability problems.
  • Analyze execution plans and optimize queries, stored procedures, indexes, schemas, statistics, and application data-access patterns.
  • Support database migrations and modernization initiatives involving AWS and managed database services.
  • Help evaluate and execute longer-term transitions toward PostgreSQL and cloud-native database platforms.
  • Build and improve database monitoring, telemetry, alerting, automation, and operational tooling.
  • Support backup/recovery, disaster recovery, replication, resiliency, patching, upgrades, and database lifecycle management.
  • Partner directly with application and infrastructure engineers during projects and production incidents.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on Microsoft SQL Server engineering/administration experience.
  • Advanced SQL Server troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills.
  • Production experience supporting databases in AWS.
  • Experience with Amazon RDS, Aurora, EC2-based database environments, or related AWS database services.
  • Experience participating in database migrations, upgrades, or re-platforming initiatives.
  • Strong production-support and incident-resolution capabilities.
  • Experience automating database engineering or operational processes.
  • Ability to work broadly across database, cloud, application, monitoring, and operational concerns.
  • Comfortable working in a small engineering team where responsibilities are not heavily siloed.
  • Ability to work EST hours and participate in rotational production support.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable)

  • PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning.
  • Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • SQL Server-to-PostgreSQL migration experience.
  • Azure SQL technologies.
  • Infrastructure as Code.
  • IDERA or comparable database monitoring platforms.
